Les Fils: Spano, Myers et Ma

Stravinsky‚Äôs complete opera “The Nightingale” unfolds with playful, shining music that tells the story of a beautiful fable. The Atlanta Symphony Orchestra featuring Yo Yo Ma presented “The Nightingale” last month, which also featured our own conductor Timothy Myers as the assistant conductor.

Here’s a video of Natalie Dessay–that consummate little nightingale of the opera stage–singing ” The Song of the Nightingale” from Le Rossignol along with the Paris National Opera. A bit of surrealism going on too.

Turandot, Nessum Dorma and The Great Pavarotti

leave a comment »

Pavarotti singing Nessum Dorma (‘None Shall Sleep’ from Puccini’s opera Turandot) has got to be one of the best tenors singing one of the best known tenor arias in all opera. Just listen.

That man could hit the Cs! There is no tenor on the international stage right now who even comes close to matching his unbelievable singing. The musicality, expression, ease on high C (which he does not ‘hit’ by the way, but sings!) and his glorious sound with all those overtones have never been equaled.

Turandot is playing here in Raleigh as part of the Met’s Live in HD broadcasts. Catch it locally at North Hills Theatre on Wednesday evening, November 18.
