Who We Are
Opera Math: OCNC + Capital Opera = North Carolina Opera. Bigger. Better. Badder!
Although Triangle-area opera—like many arts organizations nationally—has had its ups and downs over the past year, it’s always maintained a solid fan base of opera goers eager to take in a show. Balancing such classics as Madame Butterfly, Rigoletto and The Marriage of Figaro over the years has kept the crowds coming.
And in addition, keeping people interested in a 16th century art form is a particular challenge in today’s fast-paced multi-media world.
So we have to keep on our toes…and keep ahead of what’s happening and know how to reach people and get them to understand the value and pleasure opera can bring.
On this basis, two outstanding local opera groups—the Opera Company of North Carolina and Capital Opera—will soon combine to bring the best of this wonderful, many-faceted art form we call opera to North Carolina.
While we work on the 2010/2011 season and the administrative (and internet) bits of bringing the season together, this website and blog will keep you up to date on events and news about opera, the new opera organization, performances, fundraisers and more. We look forward to contributing to this blog, and enhancing our own knowledge and love of opera. I’d also love to hear from fellow opera lovers around the Triangle and beyond.
So stay tuned as we combine and grow opera-strong in 2010! Our blogging aim is to let you know about opera events in the Triangle area as well as broaden your understanding of opera…and make North Carolina Opera the place to share our love of this amazing art form.
